On October 17, 2024, between 14:00 and 15:00, an event was held attended by students from the Faculty of Health Sciences. The event began with a speech by Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKİN, Head of the Department of Child Development. ELKİN briefly explained the effects of screen exposure on children's health and then handed the floor to the trainer, Research Assistant Rabia Ceren ATEŞ.
ATEŞ discussed the impacts of screens on child development, highlighting that excessive exposure to inappropriate content from an early age can lead to developmental issues, musculoskeletal problems, language development challenges, obesity, insufficient sleep, and physical inactivity. She emphasized the importance of monitoring "Content and Duration" in children's technology use. ATEŞ also addressed the effects of screens on language development, noting that children exposed to violence on screen may become desensitized to violence, develop tolerance toward it, and exhibit imitative behaviors. Case studies related to screen exposure were conducted with participants, followed by workshop activities. The event concluded with feedback from the students.
As the Istanbul Gelisim University Young Yesilay Crescent Club, we visited the Yesilay Crescent Youth Center on Monday, November 17, 2025, and spent an informative as well as enjoyable day. During the visit, a comprehensive briefing program was conducted on the Yesilay Crescent’s work, objectives, and activities in the field of addiction prevention.
A workshop titled “TECHNOLOGY ADDICTION” was held by Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKİN, a faculty member, in cooperation with the Dean of Students; Office of the IGU Addiction Fighting Coordinatorship.
On November 12, 2025, a seminar entitled “Healthy Living and Mother-Child Attachment” was conducted at the Esenyurt District Governorship Family Support Center by Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKİN, Head of the Department of Child Development at Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Health Sciences and Coordinator of the IGU Coordination Unit for Combating Addiction, together with Research Assistant Rabia Ceren ÇAVGA from the Department of Child Development.
Within the scope of the Healthy Development Platform organized by the Istanbul Gelişim University Office of the Dean of Students and the Coordination Office for Combating Addiction, a workshop titled “Cyberbullying and Its Factors in Adolescents” was held. The workshop took place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, between 12:00 and 13:00 at the 17th floor of K Block Tower, Office of the Dean of Students, and was conducted by Asst. Prof. Nurten ELKIN and Res. Asst. Şebnem ÇELİK UÇURAN.
A "Smoking Addiction" workshop was held for students on the 17th floor of Gelişim Tower, in collaboration with the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordinator and the Dean of Students' Office, as part of the "Healthy Development" platform.
The IGU Young Yesilay Student Club held its first meeting under the guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Nurten Elkin.
An orientation program was held for students new to Istanbul Gelişim University for the 2025-2026 academic year, planned by the Dean of Students' Office, between September 15, 2025, and September 18, 2025.
As part of the "Istanbul Behavioral Addiction Provincial Action Plan," the Ministry of Health's Avcılar District Health Directorate provided an educational session on addiction to our university students.
On May 27, 2025, a seminar titled "Positive Parenting Attitudes and Creative Drama Education" was held at the Esenyurt Public Education Center Additional Building, as part of the Esenyurt District Governorship Ministry of National Education's Public Education Center Training Programs. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Nurten ELKİN, Head of the Department of Child Development at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences and Coordinator of the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Unit, along with Lecturer Buse BULAT from the same department.
A seminar titled “Adolescent Development and Risky Behaviors” was held on May 27, 2025, at the Esenyurt Public Education Center Annex Building as part of the training programs organized by the Esenyurt District Directorate of National Education and the Esenyurt Public Education Center. The seminar was conducted by Assist. Prof. Nurten ELKİN, Head of the Child Development Department at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences and IGU Anti-Addiction Coordinator, along with Research Assistant Hatice Zelal BİNGÖL, a faculty member from the same department.
