A Seminar on "Positive Parenting Attitudes and Creative Drama Education" Held

On May 27, 2025, a seminar titled "Positive Parenting Attitudes and Creative Drama Education" was held at the Esenyurt Public Education Center Additional Building, as part of the Esenyurt District Governorship Ministry of National Education's Public Education Center Training Programs. The seminar was conducted by Dr. Nurten ELKİN, Head of the Department of Child Development at Istanbul Gelişim University (IGU) Faculty of Health Sciences and Coordinator of the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Unit, along with Lecturer Buse BULAT from the same department.

The event commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Nurten ELKİN, who began by introducing herself and addressing the participants. In her speech, she provided insights into the education, awareness, and prevention-focused initiatives carried out under the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Unit, both within the university and in community-based settings.

Following the opening remarks, Lecturer Buse BULAT from the Faculty of Health Sciences at IGU delivered the seminar. In her presentation, she explored in detail the impact of parenting attitudes on children’s psychological, social, and emotional development. She explained different parenting styles—authoritarian, permissive, overprotective, inconsistent, neglectful, and democratic—using practical examples. She also conveyed effective communication techniques to the participants, such as the importance of using “I” language instead of “you” language to foster healthy communication with children.

BULAT emphasized the importance of unconditional love, empathy, understanding, and a supportive approach in children's developmental processes. Additionally, she provided concrete suggestions to strengthen family bonds by addressing the five love languages—physical touch, words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, and gift-giving.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, highlighting that parents should support their children not only physically but also emotionally.
