Awareness Training on Gambling and Substance Addiction Organized Under the Hosting of the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Office

Under the hosting of the Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) Addiction Prevention Coordination Office, training sessions on addiction were conducted by the Beylikdüzü District Health Directorate Mental Health and Addiction Unit on June 18, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Istanbul Gelisim University meeting hall.

A seminar titled “Children Empowered by Nature for Healthy Generations” was organized through the collaboration of the Department of Child Development within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul Gelişim University and the Addiction Prevention Coordination Office. The seminar was held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 14:00 at the Esenyurt District Governorate Family Support Center (ADEM) with the participation of 8th-grade middle school students. Within the scope of the program, topics such as the effects of connecting with nature on child and adolescent development, sustainability awareness, respect for nature, the positive contributions of spending time in nature to psychological well-being, the biomimicry approach, and nature-inspired designs were discussed.

In collaboration with the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Office and the Dean's Office of Students, a workshop titled "Social Media Addiction: Triggers, Boundaries, and Digital Balance" was held for students on May 21, 2026, on the 17th floor of Gelişim Tower.

The "STEP BY STEP HAND IN HAND FIGHT AGAINST ADDICTION MOVEMENT PROGRAM," initiated by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Turkey and held at the Atatürk Cultural Center between 11:00 and 15:00 on May 6, 2026, hosted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and honored by the presence of the Vice President, Mr. Cevdet YILMAZ, was introduced. Istanbul Gelişim University's Addiction Prevention Coordinator, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurten ELKİN, participated in the program representing our university.

In collaboration with the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Office and the Dean's Office of Students, a workshop titled "Alcohol Addiction: Escape, Habit, and the Cycle" was held for students on the 17th floor of Gelisim Tower.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurten Elkin, Coordinator for Combating Addiction at Istanbul Gelisim University, made statements regarding Green Crescent Week (1–7 March). Every year, the first week of March is celebrated as Green Crescent Week. This week is used to raise public awareness about addiction, encourage healthy lifestyle habits, and protect especially young people from harmful habits. Smoking, alcohol use, substance use, and technology addiction are among the most serious public health problems today.

The workshop titled “Relationship and Emotional Dependencies”, organized in collaboration with the Istanbul Gelişim University Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Child Development, the Addiction Prevention Coordination Office, and the Dean of Students Office, was held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Gelişim Tower Student Center on the 17th floor.

As part of Green Crescent Week (1–7 March), a Green Crescent stand was set up on March 4, 2026, at the entrance area of Tower J Block on the campus of Istanbul Gelisim University (IGU) by the Addiction Prevention Coordination Office.

In collaboration with the IGU Addiction Prevention Coordination Office and the IGU Student Dean's Office, Assoc. Prof. Nurten ELKİN conducted a workshop titled "Less Talked About New Generation Addictions" on the 17th floor of Tower.

The “Getting to Know YEDAM” event was held through the collaboration of the Department of Child Development within the Faculty of Health Sciences at Istanbul Gelişim University and the Addiction Combat Coordination Unit.
